It’s a book with references to k-drama, so of course I was thrilled to dive in. It was such a cute and hilarious book. Parents need to know that Maurene Goo's I Believe in a Thing Called Love is the story of a Korean-American girl, Desi, who uses Korean dramas as inspiration to capture the attention of the new boy at her school. When a cute boy arrives at her school, Desi makes an elaborate plan, including some over-the-top and slightly unsafe actions (such as staging car troubles) to get her happy K-Drama ending. That being said, the book sounded funny, and I wanted to try to understand the appeal of K-Dramas, which I’ve never watched. I Believe in a Thing Called Love, Maurene Goo, is a funny love letter to K-Dramas for the high school romantics. Desi is the overachieving girl with a crazy plan. I Believe in a Thing Called Love is one of those books that I cover lusted. The colour scheme, the adorable girl on the cover, it got me really excited. Then I found out it was a book about a girl looking for love the K-Drama way and I was instantly sold. Desi is a wonderful heroine full of humour and kindness, and she wears her heart on her I’ve never seen a K drama before, but after reading I Believe in a Thing Called Love and seeing all of Desi’s “K Drama Rules for True Love,” I feel like I understand the genre a lot more, and might actually appreciate it if I were to go watch some of them.
